Bystanders and emergency personnel rushed to help a 65-year-old woman who died in a Saturday crash after losing control and entering the Intracoastal Waterway.
Emergency personnel responded to the crash at 1450 S. Tamiami Trail, where a white Toyota sedan lost control on the roadway. The car was heading south on South Tamiami Trail when it veered right, going over the curb and sidewalk. It then struck a light pole and went off the road, going down an embankment on the west side of the Circus Bridge, Venice Police officials said. The woman has yet to be identified as next of kin notification is ongoing.

Bystanders and emergency personnel rushed to help the woman and flipped the car right side up. Fire rescue, police and civilians were able to extricate the woman after breaking a window, but a team of EMTs pronounced the woman dead after attempting 20 minutes of life-saving efforts.
The Venice Police Marine Unit, Venice Fire Rescue, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, U.S. Coast Guard, Sea Tow Venice and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission all responded to the crash.
