Suspected Boston porch pirate, called the ‘Tom Brady of stealing packages,’ arrested, arraigned

A woman, who South Boston residents called the “Tom Brady of stealing packages,” appeared before a judge Thursday.

Kerry Flynn, 34, was arraigned in South Boston District Court in connection to several package thefts in recent weeks.

According to an incident report from Boston Police, Flynn was arrested on Carpenter Street after she was observed matching the description of a suspect who had been stealing packages for weeks. At the time, police officers were delivering toys to children around the South Boston neighborhood.

Flynn reportedly was carrying two bags filled with unopened boxes. The officer filing the report noted that Flynn was experiencing homelessness and suspected to be under the influence of drugs.

A search of Criminal Justice Information Services further revealed that Flynn also had two active warrants for shoplifting out of Taunton District from October of this year.

“It’s extremely disheartening that someone would do this,” explained Chelsea Parker Harp, who lives in the area where Flynn was apprehended. Harp shared ring doorbell footage with Boston 25 of multiple instances where someone was seen coming by and stealing packages they had delivered.

In the last few weeks, she said someone stole bicycle gear that her husband had ordered as a Christmas gift to himself.

While it’s unclear if Flynn is responsible for stealing their particular packages, it is evident that neighbors are sick of the theft.

“When it comes down to the money that I lose, and then fighting with the company to try and get it back or replaced. It’s insane,” said Kelly Moran of South Boston.

Not only have “porch pirates” taken her Christmas gifts, but they’ve taken birthday gifts for her kids, and even her daughter’s prom dress.

Moran has reconsidered online shopping altogether, while people like Harp have talked about getting a locked drop box for her multi-family home.

Flynn is being held without bail until her next court appearance on January 21, 2025.

All packages she stole will be returned to their rightful owners.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
