Winnipeg-based food delivery company SkipTheDishes is laying off 800 employees in Canada amid a continuing downturn in its business.
About 100 workers are being let go from SkipTheDishes, with another 700 staff members dismissed at its parent company Just Eat Takeaway.com.
SkipTheDishes has been a going concern in Canada since 2012. It was acquired in December 2016 for $110 million by Just Eat, which has since merged with Takeaway.com.
Just Eat Takeaway.com is a publicly traded Dutch multinational online food ordering and delivery company that’s based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
SkipTheDishes’ business has struggled since the Covid-19 pandemic ended and people returned to in-person dining and moved away from ordering food to their home.
High inflation and elevated interest rates used to quell it have also hurt SkipTheDishes business across Canada.
SkipTheDishes previously laid off 350 workers in 2022.
The stock of Just Eat Takeaway.com trades on the Netherlands main exchange. Its share price has risen 1% in the last 12 months and currently trades at 12.97 Euros (Cdn$19.62).
