Rents Rise Across Canada For Fifth Consecutive Month

Rental costs across Canada continue to rise, with the average asking rent across the country now at $2,193 per month.

A new report from Urbanation shows that average asking rents throughout Canada in September of this year rose 2.1% from a year earlier.

September was the fifth consecutive month that rental rates in Canada rose, although the pace of increase has slowed from a 9% year-over-year rise in May of this year.

Ontario and British Columbia saw monthly rent declines in September, falling 4.3% and 3.2% respectively.

However, rents surged 23.5% to an average price of $1,378 in Saskatchewan, making it the fastest-growing province in Canada in terms of asking prices.

Among cities, apartment rents declined in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, while Ottawa saw a slight increase.

Urbanation said the average asking rent per month for a one-bedroom unit in Canada is now at $1,916. The average asking price for a two-bedroom unit is $2,279.
