Georgia Bulldogs QB ranked as second-best available player in transfer portal

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jaden Rashada is 247Sports’ highest ranked quarterback and No. 2 player in the transfer portal. Rashada, who entered the NCAA transfer portal on Jan. 5, has not committed to a new college football program. He has not been with Georgia this spring.

Rashada is the second-best player available in the transfer portal behind Penn State edge transfer Smith Vilbert. Rashada is being patient finding his new transfer destination, but his decision to wait could derail his hopes of starting in 2025. Rashada missed valuable time to learn a new system wherever he transferred.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound signal caller did not play any snaps for UGA in 2024. Last season, Rashada served as Georgia’s third-string quarterback behind Carson Beck and Gunner Stockton. Beck transferred to Miami in January, which means that Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi will lead Georgia’s 2025 quarterback room. The Bulldogs have an inexperienced quarterback group, but it did not look like Rashada would compete for the starting role.

“He’s done everything right since he’s been here,” said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart on Gunner Stockton. “That’s really kind of what he embodies. He’s a tough kid that loves football, that loves his teammates.”

Kirby Smart is high on Gunner Stockton, but he’ll have to compete for the starting job like any other position. “As far as quarterback, it’s just like every position, guys. I mean, every day you’re competing and fighting and doing the best you can to compete with every guy,” added Smart. “I mean, you think it’s redundant or coach speak, but there really isn’t a depth chart. There’s just reps.”

It will be interesting to see where Jaden Rashada lands. He would have gotten a lot of reps this spring with Ryan Montgomery injured, but instead he opted to train on his own. The spring transfer window opens on April 16, but Rashada can commit on any date because he is already in the portal.

Rashada has 82 career passing attempts, which are all from his freshman year with Arizona State. He threw for 485 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions during the 2023 season with Arizona State.
