A 74-year-old man faces child pornography charges after the people to whom he sold his house found VHS tapes and DVDs investigators say contained child sexual abuse materials.
James Wilkinson was booked Friday into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a charge of possessing more than 500 visual depictions of child pornography.
The Lubbock County Courthouse.
His charge stems from a Lubbock police investigation that began in October 2023 after the owners of a home called police concerned when they found media containing child sexual abuse materials.
The report states Wilkinson sold the home on Oct. 4, 2023 to a husband and wife. The new homeowners were cleaning out the home and found in the home’s entertainment center DVDs and VHS tapes that had front covers that appeared to depict explicit images of children younger than 18.
The couple later found computer hard drives they believed also contained child sexual abuse materials.
The charge against Wilkinson was presented to a grand jury on Jan. 14, resulting in an indictment.
He was arrested Jan. 17 and released a few hours later on bond set at $50,000. He is represented by Lubbock attorney Chuck Lanehart.
