DrDisrespect, Midnight Society studio head respond to ousting

Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm and Midnight Society studio head Robert Bowling have publicly responded to the creator cofounder and company terminating their relationship.

Yesterday, the developer behind Web3 extraction shooter Deadrop, cut ties with DrDisrespect. Last week, a former Twitch employee disclosed that the platform banned the streamer in 2020 because he “inappropriately messaged” a minor in 2017. Until today, DrDisrespect has not discussed his ban in-depth due to a legal settlement between himself and the Amazon-owned games streaming platform.

DrDisrespect, Midnight Society head respond

In his statement, DrDisrespect acknowledges he did send messages to a minor, but he characterizes them as “casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more.” He further contends that he did not commit a crime, share pictures with this minor or meet them in-person.

Additionally, Beahm said that the decision to terminate his relationship with Midnight Society was made collectively. “Our team is full of incredibly talented and good people that have high career ambitions and families and I’d never want jeopardize the culture we have carefully crafted,” said Beahm’s statement.

After DrDisrespect released his statement, Midnight Society studio head Robert Bowling followed up with his own further distancing himself from Beahm. Bowling further emphasized he and the studio “only act[ed] on facts.”

Impact on brand partnerships

Midnight Society isn’t the only brand distancing itself from Dr Disrespect.

According to a statement given to IGN, Peripherials manufacturer Turtle Beach has also cut ties with the creator. The brand has worked with Beahm since 2020 and last renewed a multi-year partnership in January 2023. In October 2023, the brand even released a DrDisrespect-themed headset. As of today, the brand’s DrDisrespect merchandise landing page is no longer accessible.

As the dust continues to settle, it’s unclear if DrDisrespect’s other brand partners will follow suit. DrDisrespect’s landing page with FanDuel is still live. However, company does not have a current agreement with Beahm according to the company’s statement to IGN. The creator’s bourbon brand, Black Steel, and memoir publisher, Gallery Books, have not commented yet.

For now, Dr Disrespect is taking an extended vacation from streaming, but plans to return.
