The global skin care market is projected to reach $207.22 billion by 2028, driven by increasing consumer demand for innovative, science-backed solutions, according to a report by Fortune Business Insights. As consumers prioritize products with proven efficacy and cleaner formulations, companies like Carmell Corporation are stepping in to meet these expectations.

Carmell Corporation has introduced a new bio-aesthetic approach to skin care, promising a “breakthrough” in regenerative skin care technology. At the core of the brand’s innovation is its proprietary Carmell Secretome, a formulation rooted in Human Platelet Enriched Plasma (PRP), which the company believes sets a new standard in holistic skin care solutions.

We spoke to Kendra Bracken-Ferguson, CEO of Carmell Corporation, who explained that the brand’s central philosophy is centered on working in harmony with the skin’s natural biological processes.

“Carmell’s regenerative skincare utilizes existing biological pathways to rejuvenate skin using ingredients that are ‘Built by Biology,’” she shared. “By replenishing rather than replacing the natural building blocks in our skin, the Carmell Secretome works just as Nature intended.”

The brand’s approach is particularly relevant to cosmetics manufacturers and suppliers seeking innovative, science-backed solutions. The products are formulated with over 1,000 growth factors, proteins, peptides, and bio-lipids, addressing common skin concerns such as inflammation, pigmentation, and texture.

“Our intent is to provide a holistic approach to skin nourishment by providing a wide gamut of nutrition to help skin health—we call this approach ‘Carmell Complete Care,’” she added.

Advancing skin care with PRP-based technology

According to the company, Carmell’s proprietary technology leverages PRP in a standardized, shelf-stable format—a first in the skin care industry. Bracken-Ferguson elaborated on the science behind the innovation, stating, “Platelets are the cornerstone of our body’s natural healing pathways,” and “our technology enables PRP to be available off-the-shelf in a highly standardized and safe manner.”

Unlike traditional PRP treatments, which require activation to be effective, Carmell Secretome is pre-activated in vitro, enhancing its bioavailability and efficacy. “This proprietary technology sets us apart from other companies in the world,” Bracken-Ferguson noted.

The science-backed approach is expected to resonate with medical professionals and consumers alike, particularly as demand for evidence-based skin care solutions grows.

Clinical validation and industry impact

Carmell’s commitment to clinical validation is another differentiator for the brand. A six-week study conducted by Dr. Leonard Miller, adjunct faculty at Harvard Medical School, demonstrated significant improvements in skin health compared to leading medical-grade skin care products.

“We observed significant reductions in brown and red spots, as well as a marked decrease in inflammation, which correlates directly with aging,” Dr. Miller told CosmeticsDesign. “By targeting the invisible drivers of skin aging, we can slow or even reverse the appearance of aging skin.”

Houston-based plastic surgeon Dr. Camille Cash echoed these findings. “I have seen significant reductions in redness and irritation following microneedling procedures, both traditional and radiofrequency. Patients experienced less downtime and faster recovery,” Dr. Cash said.

“These products are well tolerated across all skin tones and types,” Dr. Cash added. “I have observed improvements in skin texture, pigmentation, and vibrancy when used post-procedure or as part of a daily skin care routine.”

Innovations in ingredient delivery

Beyond its PRP technology, Carmell has developed a proprietary micellar micro-emulsion delivery system that enhances ingredient penetration and efficacy. “Unlike traditional delivery systems, this advanced method ensures that active ingredients penetrate deeper into the skin, maximizing their benefits,” Bracken-Ferguson explained.

The technology is designed to deliver targeted results without the need for synthetic chemicals.

This focus on cleaner, safer formulations is underscored by Carmell’s “Free from the Foul 14” initiative, a commitment to excluding 14 commonly used but potentially harmful ingredients from its products.

“We take pride not only in what we put into each formulation but also in what we leave out,” Bracken-Ferguson said. “We have intentionally chosen ‘the road less traveled’ to put the care of the customer first over the convenience of mass-produced ingredients.”

Scaling and future developments

Carmell Corporation is targeting professional markets, such as dermatologists and plastic surgeons, as well as direct-to-consumer channels. “By providing a ProSynergy MedSpa collection for medical aesthetic practices and a retail collection for consumers, we aim to bring science-backed, technologically driven solutions to a broader market,” Bracken-Ferguson shared.

Additionally, in early 2025, Carmell announced the acquisition of Elevai Skincare Inc., a company specializing in physician-dispensed exosome-based skin and hair care products. The acquisition is part of Carmell’s strategy to expand its offerings and integrate cutting-edge exosome technology into its platform.

“This acquisition will integrate one of the newest advances in stem cell derived exosome technology into the Carmell platform, further cementing our status as the home of the best bio-aesthetic skin care science, Built by Biology just as Nature intended,” said Rajiv Shukla, Chairman of Carmell, in a press release.

Looking ahead, Carmell plans to expand its offerings with a line of men’s products and topical haircare solutions. “All of our products are tailored to meet the demanding technical requirements of professional care providers and discerning retail consumers,” Bracken-Ferguson added.

With over seven years of development and over $60 million in funding, Carmell’s launch represents a significant milestone in the evolution of bio-aesthetic skin care. The company’s focus on transparency and efficacy aims to build trust and loyalty among professionals and consumers.

“Our products are manufactured and bottled in our medical-grade clean lab with the highest ethical standards,” Bracken-Ferguson concluded. “Through the compare products tool on our website, we want our customers to have transparency in what they are putting on their skin and in their bodies.”
