Eleven players have worn #39, and, to be honest, there wasn’t too much of a selection here. David Perron was #39, but his career didn’t take off in Pittsburgh, and he was only around for a year before getting dealt.

So, there is a clear frontrunner here, and it happens to be the guy currently donning the number for the Penguins: Alex Nedeljkovic.

Nedeljkovic has been with the Penguins for one season (2023-24). Although he spent most of the season as the team’s backup goaltender, he battled hard in the second half of the season and played in almost all of the games during the final stretch run.

And in that final stretch run – which nearly willed the Penguins to the playoffs, but came up just short – he went 9-1-3 with a .902 SV%.

To the surprise of many this summer, Nedeljkovic re-signed with the Penguins for two more years. He supplanted starting goaltender Tristan Jarry at the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see how they split time in the coming season.

Up to this point in his career, Nedeljkovic owns a 2.96 GAA and a 906 SV%.
