Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin and local police gave an update after his home was burglarized last weekend.

It was initially reported that Malkin’s three Stanley Cup rings were stolen. However, the Allegheny County Police Department said it learned the rings had been located inside Malkin’s residence. The police are continuing their investigation.

Malkin won his three Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 2009, 2016 and 2017. He was also awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy at the end of the 2008-09 playoffs.

The player released a statement on Thursday.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Allegheny County Police, the Sewickley Heights Police and the entire Penguins organization,” Malkin said. “The outpouring of support and concern from my teammates and fans over the past few days means so much to my family and I.”

Malkin played against the Ottawa Senators on Jan. 11. When he returned home afterward, he found his home had been burglarized, according to Allegheny County Police. Detectives gathered preliminary information, which indicated his rings were taken from the residence.

Malkin is in his 19th NHL season. He has eight goals and 25 assists for 33 points in 42 games played this season. In 1,187 career games, Malkin has 506 goals, 823 assists and 1,329 points. He also has 67 goals and 113 assists and 180 points in 177 playoff games, and he’s also won the Calder Trophy in 2006-07, the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award in 2011-12, and the Art Ross Trophy in 2008-09 and 2011-12.

The 38-year-old is in the third year of his four-year contract worth $6.1 million per season.

Pittsburgh is in the Eastern Conference playoff race, four points out of the second wild-card spot. The Pens haven’t seen the playoffs for two-straight seasons.
